Before filing for divorce in the state of Mississippi there are certain residency requirements potential applicants must meet. Mississippi Divorce law states that one of the spouses must have been a resident for at least six months and not have secured residency for the purpose of obtaining a divorce. A member of the armed services and his or her spouse are considered residents if stationed in Mississippi. The divorce can be filed within the county in which the couple resides.
