Before filing for divorce in the state of Mississippi there are certain residency requirements potential applicants must meet. Mississippi Divorce law states that one of the spouses must have been a resident for at least six months and not have secured residency for the purpose of obtaining a divorce. A member of the armed services and his or her spouse are considered residents if stationed in Mississippi. The divorce can be filed within the county in which the couple resides. If they couple is separated and living in separate counties then the county in which the plaintiff resides. If these certain Mississippi divorce law stipulations are not met the courts can throw out the case.
