Recent Celebrity Divorces: Who is Calling it Quits in Hollywood?

Celebrity divorces are no different from other kinds of divorces. They can be painful and depressing on one hand, and they can also be freeing and cathartic on another. Celeb divorces can sometimes be long, dragging, and bitter, but there are cases when famous people divorces are quick and relatively stress-free. The kind of divorce that one person has does not really rely on who you are, what you do, or what your standing is in life. Divorces do not discriminate, and any couple can be susceptible to the possible breakdown of marriage which could very well lead to divorce.

Recently, there have been a couple of divorces in Hollywood that have surprised many. Some have had good and peaceful endings, while some are still in the process of healing and reconciliation.

Recent Celebrity Divorces in Hollywood

Celebrities, when it comes to relationships, are just like anyone else. Some have more ups than downs, and some have the other way around. Recently, there have been a string of Hollywood divorces that have shocked their families, their friends, their fans, and media in general. Here are some of the recent famous divorces that have taken Hollywood by storm.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are probably one of the most famous celebrity couples to ever grace Hollywood. Brangelina, as they were collectively called before, met in the set of their movie, Mr. and Mrs. Smith back in 2004. They have overcomes numerous scandals throughout their relationship, starting with Brad Pitt’s infamous divorce with Jennifer Aniston.

Throughout the decade, they have established themselves as the Hollywood royalty. Aside from their work, they are famous for their brood of children, and their pact to only get married if everyone else will be afforded the right to do so as well. However, for the sake of their children, they got married in 2014.

Last September 2016, the celebrity world was shocked when TMZ uncovered papers stating that Angelina Jolie was filing for divorce against Brad Pitt, seeking sole custody of their children.  According to rumors, Angelina Jolie supposedly found Brad Pitt’s parenting methods to be problematic, and wants to take their children away from his influence. There were also rumors about infidelity, though it died down as quickly as it began. Up until today, negotiations are still underway with regard to the custody agreement of Jolie and Pitt over their children.

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s divorce is one filled with allegations and controversy. Amber Heard and Johnny Depp first met in 2009, in the set of their movie, The Rum Diaries. They officially got together in 2012 after Depp’s split with Vanessa Paradis, and were married on February 2015.

On paper, it seems like their marriage is alive and well. Amber Heard has a great relationship with the children of Johnny Depp, and throughout scandals, issues, and awards, the couple was always together. However, on May 2013, Amber Heard filed for divorce against Johnny Depp, citing irreconcilable differences. She also filed and was granted a temporary restraining order against Depp, stating that she has been, for so long, a victim of domestic abuse under the hands of Johnny Depp.

Depp’s camp denied the accusations of Heard, and stated that the words of the actress were mere misinformation and gossip. Others were quick to defend Depp, including his ex-wives and his children. Some also suggested that Heard was only after the money, causing her to withdraw her claim for spousal support in order to assert that the money wasn’t the reason, and that whatever she receives from the divorce will go to charity.

The divorce was settled quickly, with Johnny Depp agreeing to give Amber heard 7 million dollars including attorney’s fees. Heard then began to distribute and donate the money to charities focusing on domestic violence and violence against women.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin

Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow may have had split two years ago, but it wasn’t until 2016 that their divorce was formalized under the court of law. Martin and Paltrow met at the concert of Martin’s band, Coldplay, and married secretly in December 2003 after announcing Paltrow’s pregnancy with their first child.

They had a controversy-free relationship all throughout their marriage, and so when they announced their split in 2014, the people who have followed their relationship were shocked. They described their separation as a “conscious uncoupling”, an idea that stems from the long term goal of an amicable split between partners, with the priority of keeping their children safe and taken care of.

On July 2016, their divorce was finalized, with neither party shelling out or receiving spousal support. This separation has been one of the most amicable among the celebrity divorces in Hollywood.

Celebrity Divorces are Just as Painful and Cathartic as Other Kinds of Divorces

When it comes to relationships and marriages, celebrities do not have it easier compared to most. They live their lives in scrutiny, constantly under the lens of judgment from other unrelated parties. In order to keep their relationships strong, they must work just as hard, or even harder, than other people.

Like normal marriages, celebrity relationships can also be fallible. Others are filled with controversy, while others are peaceful and amicable.  Celebrity divorces can be just as painful and cathartic as other divorces, and it is high time that we remove celebrity relationships up from pedestals and treat them as normal people.
